"As a life long hunter and industry professional, I shoot shotguns more than the average person. I also read anything I can get my hands on relating to shooting sports, looking for enlightenment and searching for a method of improvement the Holy Grail of shotgunning. Everything I’ve previously read about the mental game had bits of wisdom, but lacked an answer that resounded at a deep level. In You Gotta Be Out of Your Mind!, Gil and Vicki have struck that chord perfectly. This is a profound book that has pearls of wisdom, not only for shooting clays, but for living a better life. Make this your first stop for salvation with a shotgun. Easy to read, and easier to re-read, this book has a wealth of wit, wisdom and common sense on every page. "This book is by far the most comprehensive source ever written for managing the visiomotor process, where input from the eyes, if uninterrupted, becomes output through the hands to the target. Management of this mental process is crucial to elite performance. It is the first, and only, book of it’s kind specific to sporting clays and is without a doubt what today’s competition shooter has been waiting for." Steve Brown, Level III Instructor
"I’ve read just about all the books out there about mental performance both in athletics and business. They all say the same thing, but they assume mechanical proficiency. This book is a unique blend of the importance of both mental and mechanical proficiency and their application to sporting clays. It is not only an easy read, it also explains the principals of mental performance so that anyone can understand them. It then shows you how you can specifically implement them in your shooting. Regardless of your proficiency level, you will find something in this book that will improve your game. Dean Olson, All American
"From a coach’s point of view, the subject matter is not Pie in the Sky ideas, but things that are practiced and taught presently by Gil and Vicki. This is not only a book that you can read one time and solve your problems, it is also a reference book. You will be able to glean new ways to improve things that you’ve been longing to do but did not know how to go about accomplishing. The style of writing makes it very easy and fun to read. Semper Fi! What is the book about? Coach, I want to be more consistent. This phrase, or a variation of it, has to be the one of the most commonly heard requests in sports history. And sporting clays is no differentwe get it all the time. After the big jump in learning that takes place from rank beginner to intermediate, the condition of average sets in. There are flashes of mastery times when the shooter is free from a personal averagebut the flashes don’t happen on a regular basis without the knowledge of how they were created. That’s where we come in. That’s the intent of our coaching and the purpose of this book. In over 30 years of combined teaching experience, we have studied the zone in depth, and, more importantly, we have studied what it takes to produce a zone experience. This is where the mental game becomes extremely important. Sporting clays presents its own unique challenges in this area, and we’ve come up with our own unique approach to the mental game that addresses those challenges. There are many books out there that deal with mental performance in other sports, and on a general level, they are all saying the same thing. We aren’t inventing new modes of space travel here; our core concepts are based on many of the same proven mental-performance techniques, but this book is the first of its kind when it comes to information that is specific to sporting clays. Ours is not a one-size-fits all system; it empowers each shooter to tailor the concepts to their own individual level, and it allows them to self-coach with more effectiveness. For the shooters who have taken the concepts to heart and practiced them in a committed way, we have witnessed amazing results. So what’s the secret to such a successful mental game? How is consistency created? To sum it up in one phrase: You gotta be out of your mind! If you think there might be something to the idea that you can become more consistent by getting outside of conscious thought and trusting your subconscious, this book is for you. We invite you to dive in and join us in the exciting quest for mental mastery in the game of sporting clays
and the game of life. And we’ll make this one promise: losing your mind has never been so much fun. Vicki and Gil Ash ive us all a ring, because the conversation continues.
